Choose the Right Skirts for Your Daughter
Girls’ skirts have been in style for hundreds of years, albeit the styles have changed a great deal. Even in the past few decades, popular skirt styles have varied from the denim miniskirt to the long, flowing skirt and everything in between. If you want to buy brand name children’s clothing and are seeking great girls’ skirts for your daughter, here are some tips to get started.
Accurate Sizing
Most tween and teen girls grow at a steady pace. That’s why it is so important to size skirts accurately, especially when buying brand name girls clothing online. Use a tape measure to determine what waist size and length is needed. Do you want the skirt to come below the knees or just above…or to the ankles or mid-calves? Keep in mind that a skirt that comes just below the knee this year might be above the knee next year as your daughter grows taller! Her waist might have the same thickness, so the skirt could still fit the following year, but be a little shorter.
Style Choices
Don’t leave skirt style to chance. If your daughter is eight years or older, she probably already notices how outfits “look” on her in the mirror. Choose a style that will look great while giving her the comfort needed as an active child. Various styles include the A-line skirt (long and slim with full bottom), the pencil skirt (tapered bottom), asymmetrical (uneven hemline), tube skirt (longer style similar to pencil skirt), peasant skirt (long, flowing with thin material and gathers), and denim skirts (thin or heavy denim any length or style).
For short legs and a thick waist, buy your daughter a longer skirt and avoid knee-length skirts. For girls that are tall with skinny legs, shorter skirts look great. Heavy legs can be de-emphasized with a long A-line or long, flowing skirt. Also, consider how active your daughter will be in the skirt. Will she wear it to school, family functions, an evening out, or to church functions? Some skirts are more kid-friendly than others, depending on the material and style.
Material and Weather
Buy skirts that will keep your daughter’s legs warm in winter and cool in summer. Denim works well for either. Thin cotton material breathes to allow cool air through on a hot summer day. A skirt made of a thicker cotton/polyester blend will do just fine for winter. Rayon and wool skirts tend to be acceptable for winter wear as well.
